Designing a system of consistent signage
With no existing signage standards across Metro Transit facilities, I led the development of a 250-page wayfinding manual to bring clarity, consistency, and efficiency to the system. Previously, signage was handled on a project-by-project basis, leading to inconsistent specs and ongoing challenges for planners and maintenance teams. I partnered with a junior engineer who conducted a full audit of stations and park-and-rides, gathering drawings and documentation. I verified specs, cleaned up drawings, and engaged key departments—including planning, engineering, maintenance, and transit services—to weigh in on everything from kiosk preferences to ideal hardware for maintenance.

I made recommendations, led group discussions to resolve conflicts, and created clear standards for sign types, materials, text, sizes, and mounting. I also spent time in the field confirming use cases and placement. The final manual gives planners a reliable toolkit for every facility type, complete with photos, drawings, ADA requirements, and design templates. A coded system helps teams and vendors stay aligned, ensuring consistent signage and a better experience for riders across they system.
